Contrary to what most people believe, some of the most powerful marketing tactics for getting clients are the same now, as they were 20 years ago.

Letters in the post, work. Either to new prospects or current clients. Their letterbox is a lot less full than their inbox. Most businesses use email, which means there’s an opportunity if you reach people in a different way.

A phone call will build relationships. Yet most firms don’t even speak to their clients once a month or quarterly.

Advertising is still a great way to get in front of prospects; it is just the platform that you use which has changed. It used to be newspapers and magazines. Now it’s Facebook and Instagram. Same principle.

The size of your network is as important today as it was 20 years ago. People want to do business with people that they know, like and trust.

Don’t think that your 3000 followers on Twitter are your network. They’re not. Your network are people who know and like you. Don’t be naive in thinking that a lot of followers will equal a lot of clients.

All of these ideas are from thinking 20 years ago. You just need to approach them in a modern way.
